Newark town centre is of sub-regional importance, maintaining a strong offer of independent retailers. A Georgian town hall and the Grade I listed Church of St Mary Magdalene overlooks one of the finest Market Places in the UK. The ruined Castle and grounds, famed for its role in the English Civil War, is one of the town’s most significant landmarks. The town is home to the National Civil War Centre and Palace Theatre, the latter passing its centenary year in 2020. Key geographical and natural advantages make Newark a prime candidate to benefit from  funding, ensuring that it retains its unique character and continues to thrive for future generations of residents, visitors and businesses.’

Newark Town Board

The Newark Town Board was first established in 2020 as the delivery vehicle for the local vision and strategy for the town, as defined within the Newark Town Investment Plan (TIP).

The Board was critical in successfully securing a Local Regeneration Fund (LRF) grant of £25m for the town in 2020 (previously known as the Towns Deal). The Newark Town Board provides strong and visible leadership for Newark, overseeing the priority projects funded by LRF within Newark and challenging partners to increase their ambition of what can be achieved collectively, whilst acting as advocates for the town.

In 2025, the Board, working with Newark and Sherwood District Council, secured an additional £19.5m for Newark  over a 10-year period (2026 to 2036) through the UK Government’s Pride in Place Programme (PiPP). The Board oversees the PiPP locally, making key investment decisions to support local communities and bringing together residents, local businesses, grassroots campaigners, faith, and community leaders.
