Cycle Town is an identified key priority project in the Town Investment Plan, and will deliver at least 4 bike rental stations in Newark, creating a visible hub of cycling activity and encouraging participation amongst all of the town’s communities, including underrepresented groups.
The proposed bike hire offer will be pitched at a price point that would make it an affordable option for those in education and training, with potential to secure the buy-in of large local employers, offering subsidised packages will provide a large pool of potential users, enabling the opportunity to test whether it is viable for them to commit to “modal shift”. Additionally, it is hoped that discounted community memberships can support enhanced mobility for the most underrepresented and economically deprived communities.
The first three hubs have already been installed at Castle Station, also serving Castle House, Newark Bus Station, and the development at Middlebeck. Users can see where their nearest dock is, view availability and hire a bike through the Brompton Bike Hire app.
