The Air and Space Institute (ASI) is one of Newark’s Towns Fund projects, blending education with practical experience in partnership with the civil and military aviation industry.
The project responds to skills shortages in the aviation and space sectors, who have struggled to attract, educate and retain qualified individuals needed to meet projected growth in these sectors. The project is led by Lincoln College Group (LCG), supported by the RAF, defence and civilian industry, and builds on their success in delivering an Air and Defence College across three colleges in the East Midlands. The project is strategically located in the Newark Gateway and has been designed to support the long-term growth of the aviation and space sectors residents, attract new businesses and students to the town as well as enhancing the town vitality.
Teaching for the pilot and engineering streams has already started, located in temporary facilities at Newark College, with the opening of the flagship facility expected for January 2024.
